On 26-27 May 2023, INTAMT e.V. took part in the 1st Uzbek-German Medical Forum in Samarkand at the invitation of the Uzbek Ministry of Health.
The forum served as an excellent platform for strengthening relations between Germany and Uzbekistan in the fields of medicine and education. INTAMT Director, Mr Yuri Nikitin, and Healthcare Project Manager, Ms Irina Orlikova, signed cooperation agreements with the Turakulov Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Endocrinology and the Termez branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy (TTATF).
At the end of August, from 21 to 25 August, a delegation including the acting director of the Turakulov Center, Dr. Sevara Fakhrutdinova, and the rector of TTATF, Dr. Furkat Otamuradov, travelled to Germany for a working visit.
The main objective of this visit was not only to deepen the understanding of the organisation of the German healthcare system and medical education, but also to develop concrete roadmaps for successful cooperation.
The delegation visited the University Hospital Düsseldorf (UKD), the Augusta Hospital, the Dean’s Office of the Medical Faculty of the HHU and the Training Centre for Medical-Technical Professions at the UKD.
The Uzbek guests were able to familiarise themselves with the work in the Surgical Clinic, the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine and the Department for Oncological Endocrinology at the University Hospital, attend operations and hold talks on future collaborations with the directors of the UKD clinics and the head physician of the Augusta Hospital Düsseldorf.
A particular highlight was the lecture by Prof. Stephan Martin, Director of the West German Diabetes and Health Centre in Düsseldorf. The Republican Centre for Endocrinology is planning future webinars with Prof. Martin to educate Uzbek endocrinologists about current best practice approaches in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and in the specialised training of diabetes managers. The focus was also on aspects of telemedical patient care and patient education.
