Three Baltic countries: Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, deservedly rank as European pioneers of digitization: 5G networks are being developed in these countries, broadband broadband internet is being made available to users and online services are being offered in public and local government. In addition, they have produced a number of successful Startup companies, such as Skype, Transferwise and Starship Technologies.
On 21 and 22 January, the first German-Baltic Digital Summit took place in Düsseldorf, attended by representatives of the INTAMT Academy. The international conference and matchmaking events brought together successful companies working in the development of IT products and solutions in various administrative and business areas (eGovernment, Cyber Security, Smart City, Smart Grids, Industry 4.0 and IoT, and others) Logistics) from both the Baltic States and Germany, and invited them to discuss the challenges of digitization and to engage with potential partners.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, has highlighted Estonia’s achievements in the digitization of administrative acts. He also expressed the hope that innovative Baltic experiences can also be successfully implemented in Germany and especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, where a long overdue digital change in many areas lags behind “inexplicably” for about ten years.
